The caterpillar room is the home of our youngest learners. Our babies are welcomed in the morning by Ms. Dolores. Ms.Dolores has been working with infants and young toddlers for many years both in a nursery school setting and as a private nanny. Ms. Cookie is the head teacher of our infant room. Cookie has been offering loving care for the babies of Bay Ridge Play Place since 2004.
The needs of our infants change greatly throughout their first year and our day is very much dictated by their individual needs. When a new baby arrives at our nursery we work very hard to wean them onto a schedule. The general schedule we try to follow is:

Our youngest toddlers are busy little bees in the bumblebee room! In the beginning of your child's second year of life, we will work with them to get them walking, sitting in a chair at a table for meals and to help them learn that in school we do things together, not alone! We spend most of our time throughout this year learning language and play skills. We begin to introduce more structure to our daily routine. Children begin to learn that there are set times for different activities. We work with them to teach patience. Our masterful teachers strive to create a balance of free choice with short periods of guided activity. We are beginning to teach them to follow directions and be part of a group.
Our Director, Ms. Jenn, heads up the Bumblebee room with assistance from Ms. Dolores in the morning and Ms. Maria in the afternoon.

When our toddlers enter the Penguin Room they transition into a traditional, pre-K environment. Our day includes a short circle time, story times and both active and quiet play. Our teachers plan engaging learning activities in which your toddler will develop their fine motor skills, letter/number recognition, basic colors and shapes. Quiet play is broken into individual and group play. As your child grows they will begin to wish to spend more time playing with their little friends and our patient teachers use this as an opportunity to reinforce social skills such as kindness, sharing and honesty. We spend much time throughout this year building independence. We help your toddler learn self help skills and progress through the difficult task of potty training.
The Penguin Room is headed by Ms. Carmen. Ms. Carmen is bilingual in English and Spanish and has 3 years working with preschoolers. She is currently completing a Masters' Degree in Early Childhood and is a NYS Certified teacher.

The Dolphin Room is the home of our biggest little learners. Throughout their time with Ms. Tina our preschoolers will begin their preparation for kindergarten. They continue to build on their knowledge of individual letters to include their sounds. They learn basic concepts of math and science through hands on activities. They continue to build their language and social skills. They begin to learn new topics and our skilled teachers use these topics as an opportunity to teach new verbal skills. Our goal is to advance preschoolers onto kindergarten with the ability to utilize their enhanced cognitive, analytical, communicative and social skills to make appropriate in and out of the classroom. Ms. Tina has 4 years experience working with preschoolers. She is working on completing a Masters' Degree in Early Childhood Special Education.
